Introducing: Rebecca Barnard, Gloucester Biotechnology Academy Laboratory Technician and Teaching Assistant

GMGI is excited to welcome Rebecca Barnard to the team as Gloucester Biotechnology Academy’s Laboratory Technician and Teaching Assistant. Rebecca comes to GMGI from East Carolina University where she earned her Masters degree in Biology while studying intertidal shore crabs and their parasites. Rebecca, no stranger to leading a classroom, taught a biology lab and worked with undergraduate students to further both her thesis work and lab-wide projects that utilized various molecular tools. Before attending graduate school in North Carolina, she researched marine parasites while mentoring interns at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Maryland.

At the Academy, Rebecca will be assisting with laboratory instruction in both Summer STEM and the vocational program, as well as the lab prep for experiments. She will be responsible for making sure all equipment is well maintained and the inventory fully-stocked and up-to-date. Rebecca will also work with the team in the development and improvement of curricula.

“Working at the Academy gives me a chance to work with students who are excited about science and want to learn more, as well as to be part of an organization that is actively developing new programs,” she said.

We’re glad you’re on board, Rebecca!
