GMGI Board of Directors

Introducing Two New Board Members: Laura Sen and John O'Connor

GMGI is very pleased to announce two wonderful additions to our Board of Directors:

Laura Sen is the former Chief Executive Officer of BJ’s Wholesale Club, having served in the role from 2009 to 2016. Her nearly 40-year career in the retail industry included directorships at EMC, rue21, Abington Savings Bank and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Laura now dedicates her time to serving on the boards of various organizations, including Mass Mutual, Burlington Stores, Massport, the Boston Ballet, and the Pine Street Inn where she served as Chairwoman.

Recently, Laura shared these perspectives on Gloucester and GMGI:

“Gloucester has been my favorite place since my mother brought me to Good Harbor in a wicker laundry basket the summer I was born. I love this place, its raw beauty, rich history, diverse culture, and most of all, the special fabric of the community and people here. That GMGI was created by many others who care deeply about Gloucester is no surprise. I am honored to be joining this talented and dedicated group; I look forward to participating in GMGI’s mission to help Gloucester grow and thrive.”

John O’Connor spent over thirty years of his professional career at PwC, rising to Partner, serving clients in the Boston area, and ultimately becoming Vice Chairman of the US firm, responsible for all of the firm’s service lines. John now devotes himself to serving on boards of non-profit and for-profit organizations such as ABT Associates, Lemaitre Vascular, Inc., Health Data Analytics Institute, mTuitive, Inc., and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

John said this about joining the GMGI board:

“I am excited about the opportunity to serve on the Board of GMGI. The mission, focused on marine based research, presents an opportunity to bring new life and excitement to Gloucester’s waterfront. A world class team and Board have done a remarkable job of building an institute that is doing excellent work in both research and education. I will work with the team to build on what has already been achieved and help GMGI have an even greater positive impact on human health and the fishing industry.”
